Certified Seeds Kenya Smallholders
Problem Statement
Smallholder farmers in Kenya lose 20-40% of harvested crops, and one of the reasons is disease carried in contaminated planting material, reducing income and food security. The core dysfunction is lack of access to certified disease-free seeds and propagation material at scale and affordable cost. This matters now because post-harvest losses directly undermine food security and rural livelihoods as climate pressures intensify.
Target Outcome
Reduce post-harvest disease losses by 50% for participating Kenyan farmers within 24 months, measured via field audits and harvest yield comparisons against baseline, with at least 5,000 smallholders accessing certified disease-free planting material.
